Moneyline Payout

77

A moneyline wager simply asks the bettor to choose which team will win a game, with no point spread involved. The payout odds on the favorite and underdog can differ significantly on a moneyline. A moneyline/win bet is a simple wager on who will win a game, race, match, contest, or a fight. It’s really that simple on the surface. If you’ve bet on a team to win the Super Bowl, you’ve to place a moneyline/win bet. If you’ve bet on a boxer of UFC fighter to win a fight, you’ve placed a moneyline/win bet. A 2 team parlay might pay 13/5, a three team parlay might pay 6/1, a four team parlay might pay 10/1, and so forth with the payouts getting higher with more teams or totals selected. For a single bet, 2 to 8 teams or totals can be selected. In order for the parlay bet to win, every one of the wagers must win or push (tie).

A parlay is a single bet that links together two or more individual wagers for a high payout.

If any of the selections lose, your wager loses, regardless of the outcome or cancellation of the other games. If one or more selections is a tie, postponed, incomplete, cancelled or rescheduled for another day, then the wager reverts to the next lowest number. For example, if you place a 5 team parlay and have 4 winners and a tie, your wager pays out as a 4 team parlay. If you place a 2 team parlay and one team wins and one ties, the wager becomes a straight bet.

The resulting wager will have the same risk amount with the win being calculated to reflect the odds of the remaining team (Example: On a two team $100 parlay with team A +110 and team B -110 if A ties and B wins the resulting wager will be a straight play on B risking $100 to win $91).

The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl for a second straight year, looking to become the first back-to-back NFL title-holders since the New England Patriots did it after winning XXXVIII and then XXXIX in 2005 with Tom Brady under center.

It’s that same Brady nearly two decades (!) later that will be the quarterback of the NFC champion, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. You can bet that storyline is going to be talked about A LOT over the next couple of weeks.

Now that we know who’s in, we can start placing wagers on the big game, so here are the opening numbers as of Monday morning.

Spread: Chiefs -3

Payout on moneyline

I’ve seen some places as the opening line at Chiefs -3.5, and if that was the case here where it dropped to -3, it makes complete sense to me. How do you not bet on Brady to at least cover with that extra half-point?

Moneyline Payout

That might explain how it’s dropped to -3. And I don’t think I see it moving from that spot over the next two weeks unless there’s a huge injury we don’t know about. Which side am I going with? No spoilers but, uh, let’s just say I agree with what Steven Ruiz wrote hours after the matchup was set (fine, that’s a spoiler!).

Over/Under: 56.5

This has moved around a bunch, but this seems on the money (no pun intended, I promise).

You have the No. 2 and 3 offenses in DVOA playing each other, with the No. 22 defensive DVOA against No. 5 (the Bucs). Assuming the Chiefs continue to put up points and Brady keeps slinging to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and the running game is just effective enough, this feels like a 30-27 kind of Super Bowl and not a stinker like LIII in which the Patriots and Rams put up 16 points total.

Moneylines: Chiefs -160, Buccaneers +135

Not a ton of value taking the Chiefs there, but I’m sure some big bettors will throw down six-figure bets on Kansas City to win.
