However, to become a better poker player, one should know the basics about poker dealing. So, here’s how you deal cards in poker:
Shuffling It Up!
Okay, so now it is your turn to deal the cards. Before we move to other Texas Hold’em poker dealing rules, the first question is how do you begin? For starters, give the deck a good shuffle. Seven random shuffles are considered a good practice before dealing cards in poker, but you can do more. If you are not familiar with card shuffling, you can lay down the cards face down on the table and move them around with your hands to shuffle them up. Make sure the cards stay face down while you shuffling them up.
Once the cards are shuffled and stacked together like a deck, offer the cards to the player to your right. This player has the choice to cut the deck or leave it as it is.
How To Deal Hole Cards
Hole cards are the two community cards that each player receives face-down. Before you begin Texas Hold’em poker dealing, make sure that the blinds or the antes are in place. Once the bets are confirmed, start dealing with the player on your left. Moving clockwise, each player receives one card, including you, the dealer, and the process continues until each player has received two hole cards face-down in front of them.
When the hole cards are dealt, the first round of begging can begin.
How To Deal Flop Cards
One of the top poker dealing rules to follow is to confirm once the betting round is done. Even if you have given it quite some observation, always ask ‘are we good to go’ or ‘is the pot good?’ to check if the betting round has ended or someone wants to add something. Starting a new round without finishing the last one is a bad look for the dealer.
So, now each player has their two hole cards and the first round of betting has ended, what’s next? The next round of poker dealing is called ‘The Flop’. It consists of the first three community cards dealt face-up and can be used by players to make hand combinations.
Before you deal the flop cards, ensure that the top card on the deck is put aside or ‘burned’, ensuring no can see the card before dealing. Once the top card has been burned, deal three back to back cards face up in the centre of the table. It’s critical that everybody can see each of the three cards. If you are on a big table, you can even announce the cards verbally as well so that there is no confusion among players. After the three cards are dealt, another round of betting begins.
How To Deal Turn And River Cards
Now the pot is settled, the chips have been gathered. What is the next step in Texas Hold’em poker dealing, you say? The next card to deal is the turn card, also known as the fourth street. Before you deal the turn card, do not forget to burn the top card on the deck. Once the card is dealt face-up along with the flop cards, the final round of betting begins.
Ultimately, the river card or the fifth street is dealt in a similar manner as the turn. The deal at that point goes to the player to your left side.
One of the top poker dealing rules to remember is to deal the community cards from left to right. Therefore, when you place the three flop cards on the table, the turn card should be on their right, and the river card should be on the right of the turn card. Many dealers prefer their own way of dealing, and you can too. Just ensure all cards are clearly communicated to the players to avoid confusion.
Once you have dealt the cards and taken in the bets, all that’s left is to declare the hand winner and award them the pot.
